A Social Experiment

What does your WhatsApp universe actually look like?

The Question

You're in dozens of WhatsApp groups. Family, work, church, sport, school parents, buy-and-sell, community watch. Each group is a little world — and you're the thread that connects them.

But have you ever seen it? The full picture? How many people are you actually connected to? How many strangers share three groups with you? Who bridges your work life to your social life without you even knowing?

WhatsMap answers that question.

What WhatsMap Does

Connect your WhatsApp (via QR code, just like WhatsApp Web), and WhatsMap scans your groups — not your messages, not your media, just the group structure. Then it builds a 3D map of your social universe:

The result is a living, rotating constellation that shows you exactly how connected you are.

You also get

The Eras

WhatsMap runs in Eras. Each era has a limited number of explorer slots. Early adopters get a permanent badge and a lower explorer number — bragging rights that can't be earned later.

Era 1: Genesis

The first 1,000 explorers. If you're reading this now, you're early. Your explorer number is permanent.

The Globe

Every person who maps their network adds an anonymous dot to the WhatsMap Globe — a real-time 3D visualization of the experiment spreading across the world. No personal data, just proof that the map is growing.

Why?

Because it's fascinating. South Africa runs on WhatsApp — businesses, communities, families, side hustles, everything. We wanted to see what that invisible social fabric actually looks like when you visualize it.

There's no hidden agenda. No data harvesting. No ad platform underneath. This is a genuine social experiment: connect, visualize, share, compare.

Privacy First

We take this seriously:

Built in South Africa

WhatsMap was built by a small team in South Africa, for South Africa — though anyone in the world can use it. We believe the most interesting social networks aren't on Silicon Valley platforms. They're in your WhatsApp groups.
